"He spontaneously generated a sweater-vest!"
Long couple of weeks, very long day. Collapsing. Might do a better summary later, when more concious. Which is a pity, as the "welcome back" showing is really gonna need the full strength of my talents to really "sell it." This week, you see, we're digging in the white trash...
The Tornado Bait: Trailer Part of Terror (2008, 97 minutes) The unlikliest comic-book film ever, this adaptation of a tongue-in-cheek throwback to the days of EC Comics manages the impossible by actually being pretty good. A combo morality-tale and haunted "house" story with ridiculous set pieces and dark Scooby-Doo aspirations it nonetheless pulls off some surprisingly poignient moments of character development and creeping dread. An unfortunate detour towards the torture-horror genre distracts from the film's style, but is otherwise well done.
The Camping Cheat: Motor Home Massacre (2005, 91 minutes) Because I've had a crappy couple of weeks, and I'm taking it out on y'all. I bought this trash for a buck only because I hoped it would go well with the first flick. I paid too much. It's rare that a film will drive one to really appreciate the acting skills... the writing talent... the downright competence of films like "American Vampire" or "Memorial Valley Massacre." Believe me, I've gotta be in a bad mood to subject y'all to the eternity that is this thing's running time. No apologies, it's awful, but I'm thinking it could be the kind of awful that gets massive audience participation.
